Steelmaker Signs Huge Export Deal

Two major players in the industrial world on Teesside have signed a deal to work together for the next 10 years.

Steelmaker Teesside Cast Products (TCP), owned by Corus, has entered into a productivity partnership with PD Teesport to export around three million tonnes of its steel slab per year.

Both businesses have invested heavily in new working practices and new technology to ensure first-class performance in handling and dispatch.

In order to streamline the export of its steel slab, Corus has invested in a new rail link direct from its slab yard to Teesport.

The new rail link is already under construction and is part of the pounds 40m investment that was announced by TCP in February. Jon Bolton, managing director of Teesside Cast Products said: "This is an excellent example of how a true partnership can work, we have both invested time and money and both businesses and our consortium members are benefiting as a result. …
