Birtley Town aim to consolidate pole position when they have home advantage over third-top Windscale this afternoon.

Dave Smith's side took over the leadership for the first time this season in midweek but at least seven other clubs are in contention for the crown.

"This is the tightest contest for a number of years and there is no doubt it will go right to the wire," said Birtley manager Dave Smith who anticipates having a full strength squad.

Cleadon SC, toppled from the top after losing three games in five days, need a good result from the local derby with Harton and Westoe at Jack Clark Park.

Manager Doug Key will select his side just before kick-off. His opposite number Ronnie Thompson has a doubt surrounding goalkeeper Andrew Hunter and Brett Wilson stands by.

Although they are eighth from top, Boldon CA are also in the championship frame and at home to New Marske have a fully fit squad standing by.

The visitors though are not so fortunate and Adam Taylor is definitely ruled out while Lee Goldsmith and Tony Williams will undergo late fitness checks. …
