Boumsong's World Cup Woe

Jean-Alain Boumsong has been reassured that Glenn Roeder has not lost faith in him.

The caretaker manager's recent selections might suggest otherwise, with the French international failing to make the bench for Newcastle United's last two games.

The Magpies beat both Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough and with defensive injuries easing, Boumsong may have to watch this afternoon's game against Wigan Athletic from the stands. But Roeder insists he should not consider himself an outcast.

"I haven't lost faith in him and I would have no problem whatsoever putting Boumsong back into the starting line-up," he said. "Long term it will probably be someone else's decision ( including the player himself ( whether he stays or goes."

But Roeder admits the player has spoken to him about his anxiety at potentially missing this summer's World Cup through a lack of football.

"He came to have a chat with me this week on his own without me asking to see him," he explained. …
