Dog Drama Was a Real Cliffhanger

It's a dog's life being a lifesaver.

When a call came in from the Coastguard saying a mutt was stuck on the cliffs in Tynemouth, members of the local volunteer life brigade sprung into action.

A huge rescue operation was launched, with rescuer Will Hogg winched down the cliffs on a rope.

But just as he got within reach of the dog it got up and dashed back up to the top of the cliffs, leaving onlookers in stitches.

Today Mr Hogg, of Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, who was left hanging on the rope as the dog made its escape, said he saw the funny side.

He said: "It was quite entertaining to watch it disappear over the top of the cliff.

"The members of the public who were watching thought it was amusing and I must admit I found it funny as well.

"I was right next to it with a bag to put it in but after taking a look at me it obviously decided there was no way it was coming with me.

"I think it's called Murphy's Law."

The drama unfolded at the cliffs below Tynemouth's Spanish Battery car park on Thursday. …
