It was clear from the outset this was going to be an evening of camp all the way.

Four Poofs and a Piano, of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross fame, made sure of that. I'd been looking forward to their warm-up slot for An Evening with Joan Collins. Here, though, we were `treated' to some original material. How I wish we hadn't been. They joked about how their album had bombed. It was easy to see why.

Then it was the turn of film and TV queen Joan Collins, the real reason we were all there. She got the ball rolling by showing us that, at approaching a sprightly 73, she can still do the splits. It was to turn out to be the highlight of the show.

Joan guided us through her long and varied career, backed by screen footage of her more memorable, and not so memorable, moments.

There's little doubting the `joan-of-all-trades' has had one heck of a life but I would have liked to have heard more anecdotes, more stories, more humour. …
