A sporty youngster is showing her prowess on the football pitch eight years after undergoing a heart transplant.

Boro fan Abigail Bullock, ten, regularly plays football with Middlesbrough Football Club's Football in the Community project.

And the Berwick Hills youngster is dreaming of perhaps playing for a top women's team.

Eight years ago, her parents, Kevin and Wendy, feared they would never even see her running around after she underwent a heart transplant in 1998.

Abigail was born with a heart defect and would have died without a transplant.

Since the age of five, the plucky youngster has been proving her fitness and has regularly taken part in the Transplant Games.

Now she has left the games behind, preferring to compete on the football pitch.

Abigail said: "I got bored of the transplant games a couple of years ago. I prefer football and I play it in any position.

"I would like to be a woman's footballer one day. …
