Easter Joy as Kenney Pips Ash to Winning Post
Race three of the TLI North East 2006 Series saw 44 riders sign on in sunshine at Saltwick Hill.
With the riders split into three good-sized categorized groups, the scratch group was always going to have to work hard.
With all three of the region's Elite riders Steve Kenney (Biemme), Colin Ash (NB Fox) and Sean Poulson (VC Azzurri) requesting a good workout before the Girven, both the first and second group set off at a blistering pace.
The speed of the second group caught out some of the riders as contact was made with the first group and a split was formed.
It was only on the last lap of four Kenney, Ash and Poulson where able to attack the field and make contact with the small breakaway.
This meant the race would be sorted out with a hard sprint up Saltwick Hill. James Moss (Gosforth) took the gamble and lead out the uphill sprint only to have Kenny and Ash power past in the last 50 metres but he was just able to get a length on Poulson who took fourth.
