Peace of Mind in Retirement Apartment

It's a brave ( or confident ( builder who encourages me to meet one of its buyers. And retirement specialists McCarthy & Stone were sure that a cosy chat over coffee and biscuits would be an ideal way of showing that their buyers are truly happy.

But Moira Durnell was more than a match for the men from McCarthy & Stone.

Having chatted about the apartment she and husband Peter moved into last August, Moira invited me to inspect her home ( without marketing executive Nigel Stocks and sales manager David Alford.

But they needn't have worried ( Moira and Peter are very contented buyers of a very pleasant apartment in Primlea Court, in Corbridge, Northumberland.

Of course, there are things Moira would change, but her biggest problem was simply downsizing from a large family home in Riding Mill.

Having made the tough decision, the couple are now reaping the rewards, with a home in Spain and their low maintenance apartment in Northumberland.

Moira and Peter have been forced to clear out much of their furniture and possessions, but they have found that their new, two-bedroom apartment holds a surprising amount.

It also has superb views of the hills around Corbridge, is well fitted "with more kitchen cupboards than we had in our last home" and, with McCarthy & Stone sales staff available every day, any teething troubles were soon sorted out.

"We wanted to enjoy our retirement," said Moira. "And this lovely development gives us the chance to get out and about and go where we want while we are still fit and well enough.

"We can go to Spain in the winter and enjoy the sunshine there, knowing our home here is secure. And we can return to friends and our life here when we want."

Primlea Court, like all McCarthy & Stone developments, is within walking distance of local shops and facilities. …
