Ushaw moor hope they have come up with a winner in Pakistani Imran Ulla.

He could hardly have made a more impressive debut in steering his new side to victory over Tudhoe.

Ushaw Moor faced the formidable target of 220 in 45 overs but, thanks to a hurricane innings by Ulla, they won by seven wickets with more than seven overs to spare.

Peter Metcalfe, who doubles up as chairman of the league and chairman of his club's selectors, said: "These are early days of course but Imran looked good.

"He has a good eye and hits the ball hard. A score of 220 on our ground is a big one to reach and I said at the interval we needed a big 100 from him.

"He did not let me down and his innings was a joy to watch."

Ulla made his century from just 76 deliveries and victory was in sight when he was dismissed for 120, which included nine sixes and eight boundaries.

Metcalfe was also pleased with the performance of his side's attack.

He added: "Imran opened the bowling but the three other bowlers used are all ex-juniors. …
