An asylum seeker who fled to Teesside after his entire family were butchered in Uganda has been told he must leave the country.

But Joe Kakembo is fighting the decision to kick him out and is set to hear within weeks if his appeal has been a success.

Joe, 34, said: "Middlesbrough is my home now. I have many friends here and don't want to go back. There is nothing for me in Uganda."

Joe, now a criminology student at Teesside University, fled Uganda 13 years ago after his parents and sister were butchered in state-sponsored Government violence.

He said: "I cannot go back to Uganda. I had to leave as my life was in danger. My father was against the Government and so he, my mother and sister were all killed. If I go back, the same will happen to me."

Joe, who lives in Southfield Road, came to the UK as an asylum seeker. …
