Police went to the dorm rooms of Duke University lacrosse players in an attempt to interview them amid an investigation into the alleged rape of an exotic dancer at a team party, an attorney for one of the players said Friday.

Attorney Kerry Sutton said police didn't have any warrants when they approached the players Thursday night. She said the players immediately contacted their attorneys, who advised them not to speak.

Duke president Richard Brodhead said Friday morning he was just learning about the matter and didn't have many details when asked about police searching dorm rooms at the school.

There weren't any warrants for dorm rooms at Duke among those returned to the Durham County magistrate's office Friday morning, although police have 48 hours after executing a warrant to return it.

Wrestling great Dan Gable is returning to the Iowa staff as an assistant under new head coach Tom Brands.

Gable, 57, has worked as an assistant to athletics director Bob Bowlsby since he retired as wrestling coach after the 1997 season.

Gable coached Brands to three NCAA titles during his Hawkeyes career. Brands served as an assistant under Gable at Iowa from 1993-97.


The Tennessee Titans have told quarterback Steve McNair to continue to stay away from team headquarters, McNair's agent, Bus Cook, said. …
