Through this series of seminars, Generator encourages musicians, music businesses and students to utilise the experiences built up by established music professionals to clarify their career objectives or define direction.

There are seminars designed to help those interested in setting up record labels or distribution and a one-off A&R session for musicians determined to put their music on the map.

The programme concludes with a special festival only `in conversation' session with Anthony Wilson, the founder of Factory Records and music entrepreneur from Manchester.

This will be an unmissable opportunity to get inside information from a man who witnessed first-hand the growth of the city's musical profile ( see how NewcastleGateshead is developing in the same way and discuss how best to secure this future.

The panel will explore the reality of this situation, drawing on their own personal experiences. It will also look at how the DIY approach to the music business can be adopted, before or after this kind of deal.

To coincide with the launch of a regional distribution network in Tyne and Wear, the panel will discuss the difficulties involved in getting new music into shops.
