A Jacksonville Beach man was arrested April 5 on a charge of carjacking after a woman was forced to drive all over the Southside in mid-March before she was left alone in a Golden Corral restaurant parking lot at 14035 Beach Blvd., police said.

The victim, who lives in Middleburg, told police she was driving out of a mobile home park at 10960 Beach Blvd. at 4 p.m. March 16 when a man walked up to her car and repeatedly yelled at her, police said. She rolled up her car windows as the man continued trying to speak to her. When she rolled the window down a few inches to understand him, he forced it open, reached inside and opened the car door.

The man asked her for money, then told her to drive him to Hodges Boulevard and he wouldn't hurt her, according to the police report. But he told her that if she didn't help, he would shove her out of the car, keeping a hand in his pocket as if he had a gun. The woman drove the man to the Golden Corral restaurant and got out, leaving her uninjured.

Because the man used the woman's cell phone to call someone, officers were able to dial that number and found out who he had called. After the victim picked the suspect out of a police lineup, officers picked up the man for questioning and arrested him, police said.

Following are the crimes and other incidents reported recently on the Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office:

A Marietta, Ga., woman was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated battery and battery after someone repeatedly bashed a car in the parking lot at Wal-Mart at 8808 Beach Blvd. with another car before attacking the people inside, police said.

The driver and his passenger told police a woman had followed them to the store from their home on Sandusky Avenue on the Southside after harassing them for days, calling them on the telephone and following them in her car. …
