The Amelia Island Tourist Development Council will meet at 4 p.m. today at Fernandina Beach City Hall, 204 Ash St.


The Fernandina Beach Quarterback Club will have a car wash, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Yulee.

A mandatory meeting for all student athletes and parents for the upcoming 2006 Fernandina Beach High School football season will be at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the Quarterback Club pavilion at the school.

Coach Ed Brown will discuss team rules and upcoming events.

The Quarterback Club will host a cookout afterward and discuss the purpose and objectives of the booster club.


The Florida Georgia Blood Alliance's 2006 Fernandina Beach Community Blood Drives will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 10, Aug. 12, Oct. 14 and Dec. 9.

Bloodmobiles will be at Kmart and Winn-Dixie.

Blood donations will be used by Baptist Medical Center Nassau and other hospitals.

Nassau County Teen Court will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Yulee Judicial Annex, 76347 Veterans Way.

Nassau County middle- and high-school students ages 11 to 18 who want to volunteer as jury members, attorneys, court clerks and bailiffs can sign up at their school guidance office or at Teen Court. Volunteers need to arrive at 5:30 p.m. Students earn two hours of community-service credit.

The Amelia Island Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Room of the Fernandina Beach Police Department, 1525 Lime St.

Web designer Christopher Bobst will speak on "Creating a Family Web Site." Bobst will demonstrate how to create a simple Web page for sharing pictures and information with family or for publishing family history.

The 21st annual Nassau County Volunteer Center Volunteer Recognition Luncheon will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach.

Reservations required. Table for eight is $150, table for four $85, single small-business ticket is $35 and single general-admission ticket is $15.

The 2006 Katie Ride for Life will be Saturday, April 22, on Amelia Island. The bicycling event will offer a choice of 100-, 60- and 30-kilometer rides spanning Amelia, Big Talbot, Little Talbot and Fort George islands.

The registration fee is $25; riders must raise a minimum of $100.

Proceeds will be used by the Katie Caples Foundation to promote awareness of organ and tissue donation.

The Hilliard public library branch on Pecan Street in Hilliard is now closed.

The library is expected to reopen sometime this month in its new location, 15821 County Road 108, across from Hilliard Middle-Senior High School.

The opening date will be announced later.


Crime Victims Rights Week will be observed in Nassau County April 23-29.

This year's theme is "Victims Rights: Strength in Unity."

A victims recognition ceremony will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Nassau County Judicial Annex in Yulee.

The event will include speakers and a display of T-shirts decorated by victims of violence. …
