World champion Fernando Alonso believes he can get his hands on the European Grand Prix winner's trophy at the Nurburgring tomorrow.

The Renault driver has yet to finish outside the top two this season, but those points have been hard earned as a result of his failure to claim a front-row start in four attempts after being plagued by qualifying gremlins.

Alonso impressed in practice yesterday and hopes he has a golden opportunity to win at the Nurburgring for the second straight year.

He said: "I will try again. It is true that qualifying has not been perfect - mistakes in Bahrain, too much fuel in Malaysia and a different strategy in Australia and Imola.

"But we are quite good on Sunday and that is important, I prefer that obviously. We know that the race pace is strong and we have shown this in the first four races.

"But it is always a risk to believe in strategy because the first corner is always difficult. …
