What Geese Can Teach Us

I have had a fascination with people for as long as I can recall. I get curious, extremely curious, and in my line of business that is just as well! My work takes me in many exciting directions and I never know who will contact me next to seek out my skills in helping to bring about positive change. Team-building is a subject I love to get my teeth into, and working to improve motivation, productivity, time management, confidence, communications and team relationships is always a great challenge.

In life there will always be people who are natural born leaders as well as people who are happy to follow and do what is expected of them. As a team it is important to recognise that we need all sorts of people with varying skills and qualities to create a successful and healthy balance, as well as the ability to identify the weaknesses or missing links. In a business a team of people might have an objective to complete a project within a certain timeframe, so working well together can be crucial. A sporting team have to be totally dedicated to achieve success, with players using different skills, and a captain or coach to mentor and motivate everyone to win. In an army the soldiers are an integral and critical part of the team, as much as the sergeant majors, generals, captains and colonels, each having to play an important and essential role, and without the expertise of these team players, things can fall apart with devastating consequences.

Trust, encouragement, communication, clarity, focus, knowledge, commitment, experience and support all play a part in getting a team to reach the finish line. So how about learning from geese, this being the very best example I have come across to demonstrate excellent teamwork?
