MADONNA is presenting a new test for Pope Benedict XVI- how to react to a provocative pop star.

Seventeen years after she shocked Pope John Paul II and was condemned by the Vatican, she's at it again.

The Material Girl kicked off her latest world tour with a concert in Los Angeles by performing while strapped to a 20 foot high crucifix, which was dramatically back-lit.

If the religious imagery seems familiar, that is because in 1989 the Vatican condemned her video for Like A Prayer as blasphemous.

The video featured burning crosses and a black Jesus, whom Madonna kissed, and she also appeared to have stigmata on her hands.

The Vatican sought to ban her from Like a prayer: Madonna opens her world tour in vintage style in Los Angeles where she also pole danced while on a saddle, right performing in Italy. She also ran into trouble with Pepsi, which had paid her $5 million to appear in a separate video advertisement. …
