Logo is permanent mark on pounds 1,400 plasma TV

A MUM who paid pounds 1,400 for a plasma TV was shocked to be quoted nearly pounds 4,000 to repair it - because it wasn't covered under an insurance plan.

Lynn Phillips assumed the 42" LG plasma TV she bought from Curry's at Teesside Park in December for pounds 1,399 would be covered under the firm's Whatever Happens pounds 7 a month plan.

But, it seems, Whatever Happens doesn't cover what Lynn's TV is suffering from - "screen burn."

A phenomenon affecting some plasma screens, it occurs when static TV channel logos, particularly on digital channels, are turned on for hours at a time, leaving a permanent on-screen shadow whatever channel is playing.

Yet "screen burn" isn't even what Lynn sent her TV in for - her problem was flashing red dots in the screen's other corner.

But on being quoted pounds 3,980 to fix her TV, Lynn has recalled it, unrepaired - and complete with ghostly Nickelodeon orange splash-style logo in the top right hand corner. …
