Pounds 40.2m Job Is at Stake

The winner of a pounds 40.2m Private Finance Initiative contract to build Newcastle's new City Library is due to be announced next week.

Two companies, Kajima and Information Resources, have been shortlisted after submitting bids for the contract.

Members of Newcastle City Council's procurement committee will meet on Thursday to decide which will be appointed.

The contract also includes the building of a new library at High Heaton, with all work expected to be complete by 2009.

Charity ball

TICKETS are available for a ball in the North-East that will raise money for the charity WaterAid.
