Anna Fashions a Tribute to Her Father

A group of girls are swapping their school uniforms for catwalk chic to raise money for a children's charity which helped one of them after her father's death.

The fashion show, to be staged at Gosforth High School, Newcastle, will raise cash for Barnardos, a charity which helps to support youngsters and their families.

Organiser Anna Vaernes, 17, was just 11 when she turned to the charity for bereavement counselling following the death at 42 of her father, Martin.

Now Anna, and friends Una Maific, Sophie Appleton and Louise Wainwright, all 17, have organised the catwalk demonstration to raise as much money as possible.

It comes after the group raised more than pounds 200 for a breast cancer charity in October last year.

Anna said: "We wanted to do what we could to raise money and staging a fashion show seemed like it would be a fun idea and a way to benefit other people.

"This time we also wanted to do something that would help children. …
