A special hotline number has been set up for theatre-goers in South Shields to pledge their support to the Customs House.

The arts venue is facing a pounds 100,000 black hole in its budget because of emergency repairs to stage equipment. It will close for three weeks from July 18. The hotline number is (0191) 454-1234.

Fair old school

LINTON First School near Morpeth will hold a summer fair and an exhibition on Saturday June 17 and an open morning on Monday 19 to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

It is also planning to produce an archive of Memories of Linton School. Former pupils and staff are being invited to submit their 200-word memories in writing by Thursday May 25.

YOUNG footballers from India have benefited from a community coaching course run by Newcastle United.

The youngsters from Mumbai played a series of games in Stocksfield, Northumberland. They also visited St James' Park and met Alan Shearer.
