Peter Taylor last night withdrew from contention to become Charlton's new manager. The Hull City boss announced he would be staying at the KC Stadium next season, despite being interviewed for the Addicks vacancy. Former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy and Colchester manager Phil Parkinson have also been linked with the south London club.

Warnock ban

SHEFFIELD United manager Neil Warnock will have to watch the Blades' first two matches back in the Premiership from the stands after being hit with a touchline ban. The Football Association handed Warnock a six-match suspension and fined him pounds 1,000 following an incident in United's match against Leeds on April 18. The Blades boss was sent from the dug-out during the Yorkshire derby following a late challenge by Gary Kelly on Blades defender Craig Short.
