An angry Teesside man said he has seen three wheelie bins disappear in the back of a garbage truck, leaving him with nowhere to put his rubbish.

Stephen Poulton, 48, from Coulby Newham, said his bins had been disappearing over the last two months and he thought yobs were stealing them.

But he discovered last week that they were being taken away by a Middlesbrough Council rubbish truck after a malfunction on the vehicle.

When he asked binmen about the problem, they told him they had seen several other bins lost inside the machine after the mechanism designed to tip them had swallowed the whole bin.

Stephen said: "I asked the binmen and they said the same had happened to loads of bins.

"I have lost three and my next door neighbour has lost three bins as well.

"The first and second time we thought someone was pinching them.

"So we were watching everything and we saw the binmen come and then it happened.

"I went mad with them, but they said 'It's not our fault, it's the machine itself. …
