Commando Scott is set for a quick reappearance at Ascot tomorrow after claiming the Magner's Irish Cider Handicap in the hands of Fergal Lynch at Ayr yesterday.

The five-year-old was unplaced at York last week but is now in line to run in the Victoria Cup on the glamorous card at the Berkshire venue, which celebrates its reopening after a multi-million pound redevelopment.

"He was drawn on the wrong side last week, that's what I think now and it was my fault in telling the jockey to stay where he was," said trainer Ian McInnes.

"I was a bit worried whether six furlongs would be too sharp, but it wasn't and he seems just as good over seven furlongs, so if he is all right we will go to Ascot tomorrow."

Tom Eaves took the riding honours when completing an 866-1 double on Blue Madeira and Norman Beckett.

Malton trainer Linda Stubbs' husband Bill was confident they had something with which to go to war with in the shape of the former, and his judgement was spot on as the youngster got home in a thrilling finish to the Tennents Lager Maiden Auction Stakes. …
