Fleming Island Celebrates Opening of Camarda Building

Clay County leaders are heralding the opening of Camarda Financial Advisors' new headquarters on Fleming Island as not just the building of an impressive office space, but a potential catalyst for quality economic development in the area as well.

Bob Krieger, Clay County Chamber of Commerce chairman of the board, said he hoped the stately building would be "just the beginning" of more such structures here.

"Additionally, Camarda is an example of the type of employer we hope to attract through implementation of our strategic plan for economic development -- employers that bring high-wage, high-skilled jobs to the county," he said.

The elegant, 20,000-square-foot building at 4371 U.S. 17 opened officially recently, with more than one party scheduled to let officials, business leaders, clients and the public take a peek. An open house for the general public was staged April 22 and the grand opening, which was attended by many local leaders, was Thursday.. Those festive events marked the culmination of long months of construction work, but the end result has been most satisfying, said Kim Camarda, president and chief compliance officer for the firm.

"It turned out much more beautiful than even we expected," she said. "It's got that old-money Wall Street feel to it."

Tallying in at some $4 million (a price tag which includes the land, structure and the build-out of Camarda's second-floor office space), the building boasts rich mahogany paneling, lots of marble and classically styled chandeliers. The tony atmosphere seemed to win the approval of those who saw it at the grand opening.

"It brings class to Clay County," said Frank Houle, a gold ambassador for the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. "We need more buildings like this."

Plans for the building call for Camarda Financial Advisors Inc. to eventually take up the entire 10,000 square feet of office space on the second floor and lease the remaining space. …
