Bodies of Two Kidnapped US Soldiers Found in Iraq

THE tortured bodies of two missing US soldiers have been found near Baghdad, the Iraqi defence ministry said today.

The 101st Airborne Division soldiers were ambushed by Iraqi insurgents while manning a military check- point last Friday. A third soldier was killed in the attack.

Privates Thomas Lowell Tucker, 25, from Oregon, and Kristian Menchaca, 23, from Houston, were snatched in Yusufiya, a town just south of Baghdad which is considered an al Qaeda stronghold.

Iraqi spokesman General Abdul Aziz Mohammed said the murdered men's bodies, which showed signs of torture, had been found near an electricity plant.

US military officials in Iraq refused to confirm whether the bodies were the two missing soldiers.

American forces had mounted a huge search operation for the men, involving 8,000 troops.

An internet statement posted by the Mujahideen Shura Council - a grouping of insurgents that includes al Qaeda in Iraq - said it had abducted the soldiers. …
