The funeral of a man gunned down in cold-blood at a popular beauty spot is being held next week.

Father-of-seven David Rice was sitting alone in his car at the Marsden Rock car park in South Shields when a car drove up alongside him and two masked men opened fire on him at 4pm on May 24.

The 42-year-old of St Vincent Street in South Shields crawled out before being shot again in the head as he lay on the floor.

The men drove off in a black Ford Mondeo, which was later found burnt out in nearby Lizard Lane.

Mr Rice, also known as Noddy, was well known in South Shields and his fiancee and family members are expecting a large turn out for the funeral at South Shields Crematorium on Wednesday. Yesterday, his family released a statement urging all his friends to attend his funeral.

It read: "All who knew and loved Nod are welcome to attend the service and to meet at the Marsden Inn in South Shields afterwards, where we will continue to celebrate his life. …
