the english are coming!

Just when you thought St. Augustine was safe from reenactment attacks, news of another fake pillage-and-plunder event hits the historic streets of the Oldest City on Saturday.

This time the actors will mimic a famous English attack from 1586 led by explorer Sir Francis Drake. All will start quiet enough, with a 16th century encampment at the Fountain of Youth from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., which will feature military drills and skill demonstrations. But at 8 p.m., all Hades is going to break loose as a sword and black powder musket battle will commence in Plaza de la Constitucion. Townspeople and Spanish soldiers will try to stop Drake's forces, but we're betting on the Brits. After all, the real pirates burned St. Augustine to the ground all those years ago.

Witnessing the battle won't cost you a thing, but admission to the Fountain of Youth encampment is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children.
