The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary hosts a one-day America's Boating Safely program for new and experienced boaters from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Stellar building at 2900 Hartley Road. Successful completion meets Florida's mandatory boater-education requirements, and participants will receive a Florida Boating Safety Education card. There is a $25 fee, and a second family member only costs an additional $5. Bring your own lunch.

Prosperity Bank will host a Pet Party to benefit of the city's Mandarin Adoption Center at 10501 San Jose Blvd.

Prosperity Bank has combined with the pet adoption agency to raise funds and food for homeless animals rescued and cared for each day. Bank customers are asked to bring food, toys, and monetary donations to the Prosperity Bank branch at 12689 San Jose Blvd. 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 10.

All donations will be delivered to the agency June 10. The city's Mandarin Adoption Center is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.


The Mandarin Garden Club is the place for a landscape design workshop from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the clubhouse at 2892 Loretto Road.

The workshop is sponsored by the city's agricultural department and will include information on drought-tolerant plants and low-flow irrigation. Attendees will also learn how to create a garden room, develop an eye-catching spot in the landscape and learn which plants to choose for sunny, shady, wet and dry areas.

Seating for the program, which is $5 per person, is limited. Register by calling 387-8850.


The Mandarin Garden Club celebrated its growth during a general meeting and luncheon May 2 at its clubhouse at 2892 Loretto Road.

The past year included a gala celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the club, the construction of Boo Boo Bunnies during Easter for Wolfson Children's Hospital and the founding of a new garden circle for children and parents called the Bumblebees. …
