The Clay County United U-15 girls soccer team won three consecutive games in the Florida Youth Soccer Association sweet 16 tournament over Memorial Day weekend to earn a place in the state's final four.

United will line up against Pensacola at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in Palm Bay. A win will put the team in Sunday's state championship game.

United traveled to Boca Raton over the holiday weekend and upset a heavily favored Valrico team 1-0 to begin a streak of three shutouts. Clay United then knocked off Melbourne Eau Gallie United 4-0 and Jupiter 1-0.

Working with a crossing pass from Kara Moore, Monica Hall found the corner of the Valrico goal with 15 minutes to play in the upset. Defense, however, is what powered United through the sweet 16.

Goalkeeper Brooke Chancey had 20 saves over the three-game sweep, while defenders Marsha Vongjesda, Shannon Pringle, Kameron Stillwell, Justine Quick and Airaka Ramsey kept all their opponents from making many serious threats. …
