Esh Winning's fixture secretary Joe Lawlor reckons Eddie Watson is as quick as any bowler in the league ( as Etherley found to their cost.

The South West Durham side went into Sunday's fixture without professional Craig Emmanuel and fielded just 10 players.

Their plight worsened when Watson tore the early batting apart and there was no way back for the visitors.

Lawlor said: "Eddie was on fire. He bowled very quick and I believe no-one can match him for pace when he is at the top of his game.

"He claimed the first three wickets, clean bowling two of the batsmen, and finished with a four-wicket haul.

"Bowlers can only deliver a maximum of 15 overs otherwise Eddie would take even more wickets."

Watson, meanwhile, proved he is also a useful batsman when he struck an unbeaten half-century leading Esh to victory over Northern Rock ECB North East Regional Premier League side Stockton in the Captain Ramsden Trophy on Monday night. …
