Pensioner Joan Is Hailed a Real Hero

A volunteer at the heart of a successful Stockton regeneration scheme was given a hero's welcome in Parliament.

Pensioner Jean Oliver was invited by Stockton South MP, Dari Taylor, to a Heroes Tea Party in Westminster to celebrate the achievements of older volunteers.

The 75-year-old's dynamic contribution to the Parkfield/Mill Lane community was recognised with the presentation of a certificate.

Dari said: "As vice-chair of the Parkfield/Mill Lane Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder Scheme, Jean has played a major role in improving the quality of people's lives in an area which falls within the top 3pc of the most deprived wards in the country.

"Mrs Oliver has worked tirelessly with the police, the anti-social behaviour team, local residents and agencies to reduce levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in Parkfield/Mill Lane.

"As chair of the Neighbourhood Management Well-Being Group, she is committed to helping people achieve healthier lifestyles. …
