Wigan boss Paul Jewell looks set to begin a summer spending spree with the capture of former England striker Emile Heskey.

Latics have had a pounds 5.5m bid for the 28-year-old accepted by Birmingham and Heskey is expected to begin talks with the Lancashire club today.

"Emile is a proven performer at Premiership and international level," said Jewell.

Bob honour

FORMER Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson has been named president of Ipswich.

The 73-year-old, who managed the Tractor Boys for 13 years, is the club's first president since the death of Lady Blanche Cobbold in 1987.

He said: "I am extremely flattered to have been asked to become the president of Ipswich Town football club.

"The 13 years at Portman Road were among the happiest days of my career."
