Prescott Admits Meeting Casino Billionaire's Team

JOHN PRESCOTT was today accused of misleading Parliament over his links with casino bosses.

The Deputy Prime Minister has previously admitted only to one meeting with casino operators, in Sydney in 2004.

Now in the face of the furore over his links with US billionaire Philip Anschutz, Mr Prescott has confessed to having met a representative of Kerzner International as well.

The company, run by South African Sol Kerzner, is a partner with Anschutz Entertainment Group in the bid to open Britain's first super-casino at the Millennium Dome.

The revelation will cast doubts on Mr Prescott's claim not to have been involved in negotiations on selling the Dome to a consortium including Mr Anschutz's company, or in planning issues and selection of sites for casinos.

The parliamentary commissioner for standards, Sir Philip Mawer, is investigating whether the Deputy Prime Minister breached Commons rules by failing to declare a visit to Mr Anschutz's Colorado ranch last year in the Register of Members' Interests. …
