To tb, North Shields, Tuesday, July 18: I have been a welder since I was 15 and I am now 55. I have come up from welder to foreman to inspector and have worked all over the world including the Middle East, Far East, Australia and Europe. I have seen first-hand the work at both Swans and Govan, but Govan's work is not a patch on the workmanship in Swans. The Government has sold Swans down the river along with the rest of the Tyne. The boats made in Govan will be in dock for maintenance and repair long, long, long before Swans' work is.

I'D LIKE to vent my spleen about two items in Tuesday's Chronicle. Firstly, the Green Market should be closed down as it just sells tat and Gregg's pasties and sausage rolls to charver families. Secondly, what's the fuss about the old bricks from Roman days at Wallsend? …
