Tall Ship receives a royal welcome

Ahoy there!

The River Tyne welcomed back one of the tall ships that brought life to its banks 12 months ago.

The Prince William was one of the 109 vessels that took part in the 2005 Tall Ships Race, which graced the Newcastle Gateshead quaysides.

And she took time out from this year's event to return to the river that provided so many happy memories.

On board were seven youngsters from Jarrow, South Tyneside. They joined the ship in London last Friday and their first task was to sail through the famous London Tower Bridge.

Their seven night adventure took them to Den Helder in the Netherlands, which they left before making their way to Newcastle Gateshead.

Chris Rowlings, 19, a joiner, said: "It's been brilliant. The best bit has been meeting lots of different people from other parts of the country.

"I liked being in Holland because it was great to experience what another country is like. …
