Chatroom Lover Gets Life for M&S Model's Murder

THE model who was battered to death by her boyfriend with a candlestick lamp met her killer through an internet chatroom.

Charlotte Maltese had also had her nose broken in a previous attack by IT consultant and martial arts expert Martin Inglis.

Friends today revealed how they had tried to get Italian-born Ms Maltese, 25, to leave her violent lover but she was firmly under his control.

They separated in November 2004 but got back together in May - four months before he killed her.

Inglis chased Ms Maltese into a bedroom of their Docklands flat and battered her around the head with the lamp and a broken bottle. She choked on her own blood as Inglis held her and told her he was "sorry" before calling police.

Inglis, 37, was jailed for life at Blackfriars Crown Court yesterday.

One friend of Ms Maltese, who asked not to be named, said those who cared for her had tried to persuade her to leave Inglis. …
