The death of a close friend's mum has inspired a Guisborough woman to trek Peru's Inca trails to raise charity cash.

Andrea Edwards, 48, is now devising ways of raising the pounds 2,700 sponsorship she needs to take part in the organised trip, most of which will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

The mental health support worker at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust at The Cottage, Guisborough, said: "I'm keen to support the Alzheimer's Society as we have recently lost my best friend's mum, who had Alzheimer's.

"The family don't wish to be identified, but I would like to think the money I raise from the trek could help to make a difference to fellow sufferers."

A spokesman for the organisers said: "Peru has always fascinated Andrea and this challenge provides her with an ideal opportunity to see the country and raise some much needed funds.

"One of the first fundraising activities she's planning is a Poncho Party, where friends come along dressed in ponchos and donate prizes for a raffle. …
