A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday after fellow summer campers chased him down the hall at an Edward Waters College building before pushing him into a window.

The Jacksonville teenager needed nearly a dozen stitches to one arm and five internal stitches and five staples to his torso, authorities said.

The boy's injuries weren't life-threatening, according to police, who didn't report any arrests. The boy said he didn't see who chased or pushed him about 10 a.m. at a building on the Kings Road campus, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

A Navy sailor was being held Tuesday on a sexual battery charge in lieu of $100,0000 bail following the reported rape of another sailor, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.

Police arrested Daniel Ortiz Rodriguez, 35, on Thursday, charging him with raping a 19-year-old female shipmate at a Mayport motel May 20 after the group had been drinking.

The sailor told police he blacked out and doesn't remember what happened but had a consensual sex encounter with the woman the weekend before, something authorities said she denied.

The woman was passed out at the time and two witnesses told police they pulled the man off her after seeing what was happening.

A Palm Coast resident faces 16 charges after eight great blue herons nesting in trees in a vacant lot next to his house were shot and killed.

Mark Alfred Suter, 26, of Hernandez Avenue has been charged with eight counts of willful and wanton waste of wildlife and eight counts of unlawful taking of migratory birds, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The charges are misdemeanors.

Suter is accused of shooting the birds to keep them from defecating on his roof, according to authorities. …
