Gateshead thunder make their first trip to South Wales to take on LHF Healthplan National League Two newcomers Celtic Crusaders with their play-off place under threat.

Thunder's four-point defeat against Featherstone Rovers last weekend and a subsequent victory for Barrow put the Tynesiders in the seventh and final play-off berth.

A run of four consecutive defeats has undermined Gateshead's efforts to reach the play-offs for the second successive season but Australian loose-forward and captain Joe Burley remains upbeat.

"We are under pressure to reach the finals and the recent run has been very disappointing," said Burley. "But we still have the team to get there and do well in the play-offs.

"The Celtic Crusaders match is a four-pointer and, while it won't be easy at the Brewery Field, there is not a lack of belief in the squad.

"We have to get back to wining ways and finish the season strongly but we have improved in our last two games and must now put it together. …
