Trevor Has Spared No Expense

Trevor Harbottle has gone to great lengths and spared no expense in improving his detached bungalow in Rowlands Gill, Tyne & Wear. The 42-year-old, who runs an international air freight business, has added a huge garden room that extends across the full length of the house, spent pounds 22,000 on a state-of-the-art kitchen and added a solarium and sauna.

Attention to detail is paramount for Trevor, who previously lived in Gosforth and Jesmond. He said: "I moved the bathroom wall eight inches so I could fit in a double whirlpool bath and I even replaced a new boiler because there wasn't a cabinet that would conceal it when I got my new kitchen."

When Trevor bought his house 15 years ago, it was just three years old. He said: "It was one of just 14 houses, although there are now three or four extra houses as some people have divided off their gardens. I've had up to 100 people round for parties as it's a great house for entertaining, especially the conservatory extension, which is 30ft long.

"I don't really class it as a conservatory as it's more of an extra room, in fact it's probably the most used room in the house. As the garden is elevated in three tiers, you really feel like you're in the garden."

Trevor's home has a great elevated position with impressive views over the Derwent Valley and gardens to both sides. The rear landscaped garden has a summerhouse, patio area and mood lighting. It overlooks woodland and Trevor says it's very private.

In addition to the garden room, there is a spacious lounge with large feature bow window, Louis-style fireplace and French doors to the elegant dining room.

The breakfasting kitchen, which was re-fitted two years ago with cherry wood units, is another of Trevor's favourite rooms. "It has heated floors and a plinth heater," he said. …
