Palace Hero Morrison Makes Plea to Taylor

CLINTON MORRISON says he hopes his late winner against Leeds will convince Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor that he deserves a place in the team and not on the bench.

Morrison made a major impact when he came on as a substitute with 17 minutes to go against 10-man Leeds. He scored the only goal, in injury time, to lift Palace to the top of the Championship.

The 26-year-old is close to full fitness after a knee problem disrupted his preseason training, but Taylor has given him little match action so far having taken him off at Ipswich at halftime and not played him at all against Southend.

But Morrison, who has joined up with Ireland's squad ahead of their friendly with Holland, insists he is back to his best and wants to be in the starting XI against former club Birmingham on Saturday.

Morrison said: "It was pleasing to score coming off the bench but I don't have anything to prove to anybody. I know what I am capable of, hopefully when I get myself properly fit I will get the amount of goals I know I can do. …
