Social Housing. What images does it conjure up? Run down estates, dilapidated housing and unkempt open green space?

This may have been the case 10 or more years ago, but helping to turn these views on their head is leading community regeneration specialist Frank Haslam Milan North East fhm.

By definition, social means "living in a community/being a member of a community" something which is at the centre of fhm's work ( delivering vibrant sustainable communities where people are proud to live and work. The Sunderland-based company which builds and refurbishes over 8,000 properties a year, is working at the heart of communities across the region to drive forward construction led regeneration initiatives.

In the North-East alone, fhm has contracts with nine major social housing providers including Sunderland Housing Group, Housing 21, Coast and Country Homes, Tristar, Blyth Valley Housing, Gateshead Housing Company, Your Homes Newcastle, Chester le Street District Council and Hanover Housing.

At the forefront of the company's success is its commitment to its people, its employees, its clients, but most importantly its customers, the people who live in the homes it refurbishes and communities it regenerates.

Working at the heart of people's homes, fhm prides itself in offering a high quality service to its tenants. Keen to maintain and encourage positive relationships with the community, fhm employs a 30 strong Resident Liaison Team.

This consists three Community Liaison Managers, four Lead Resident Liaison Officers, 22 Residents Liaison Officers and one Assistant Resident Liaison Officer, which provide an accessible point of contact during the renovation process, offering support, guidance and advice to allay any concerns residents might have.
