A teenager accused of causing the death of a boy by dangerous driving was expected to appear at Teesside Crown Court today.

Eight-year-old Daniel Conroy Curtin, pictured, of Ayresome Street, Middlesbrough, was struck by a Rover Metro near a cycle path on the south side of Riverside Park on May 16.

He suffered severe head injuries and died at James Cook University Hospital nine days later.

Five youths were arrested and four charged in relation to the incident.

A 15-year-old Middlesbrough boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied aggravated vehicle taking.

After Daniel died, he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He has not yet entered a plea to that charge.

Another teenager, 18-year-old Lee Fenton, of Oxford Street, Middlesbrough, is awaiting sentence. He admitted being carried in the vehicle which caused injury to Daniel.

He admitted a separate charge of aggravated vehicle taking, where he drove a Nissan Micra dangerously knowing it had been taken without the owner's consent and an accident occurred last Boxing Day. …
