You might call it gratitude times two.

The Bridge of Northeast Florida folks said the George Baldwin Foundation doubled its contribution to the Bridge's scholarship fund this year.

That means the Bridge, a nonprofit Springfield group that provides programs and services to inner-city youths and their families, was recently able to award 13 $2,000 scholarships and three $4,000 scholarships

The $2,000 scholarship recipients are Sunnie Barnes, Alyssha Brown, Whitney Harper, Aubrey Harris, Karisa Hawkins, Kellie Hawkins, Ebony Hope, Bethanicole Lawton, Brittany Magee, Brandon McCoy, Terrell Fercell, Burchard Rentrope and Roxanne Smith.

The 2005-06 Master Bridge Builder Scholarship recipients are ReShawndia Brown, Kareem Chambers and Tameika Wright. The $4,000 Master Bridge Builder Scholarships recognize students' commitment to community, health and education. They began in 2002 to honor visionary leaders who provide invaluable support.

Health winner: As winner of the Carol Thompson Master Bridge Builder in Health Award, ReShawndia Brown received a Bridge scholarship for the second time. She is using her scholarship to pursue a major in health education and human behavior at the University of Florida. Her goal is to become a primary care physician serving the inner-city population.

Education winner: Kareem Chambers, completing his studies at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, received the Delores Barr Weaver Master Bridge Builder Award for Education/Children Services. Kareem hopes to transfer to Florida A&M midyear and continue his studies to become a history teacher. He feels that by teaching, he can inspire someone as his teachers have inspired him.

Community winner: Tameika Wright received the George M. Baldwin Master Bridge Builder for Community Award. She has just completed her junior year at the University of North Florida, where she is majoring in forensic photography with a minor in education. …
