Passages is a four-day orientation designed to ease the apprehensions of girls entering middle school.

Topics include organization and time management; dress codes and personal style; interpersonal communication; appreciation and respect for others; dealing with bullies; asking for help; and working with authority figures.

The program is open to all incoming middle-school girls.

Cost is $35 per student; sessions are limited to 30.

Girl Scouts of Gateway Council will present the program 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Thursday at Callahan and Fernandina Beach middle schools and July 24 to 27 at Hilliard and Yulee middle schools.

Florida Community College at Jacksonville Betty P. Cook Nassau Center in Yulee will host an open house for recent high-school graduates, high-school seniors and others considering their college options 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 25.

Information will be provided about the new Lewis "Red" Bean Nassau Technical Career Center as well as program options and classes at FCCJ. The event will include information about financial aid, campus tours and an opportunity to meet academic advisors and staff.

Band camp for Yulee Middle and High school students will be 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 1 to 3 at Yulee High School.

The camp is for seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-grade band students. The camp also serves as orientation for incoming band students, and band uniforms will be fitted. Students will learn to read, march to and perform music.

Students must have completed a beginning band class to participate.

The band's first performance will be Aug. 5.

The Nassau County Volunteer Center's Corporate Volunteer Council is conducting its sixth annual Giving Our Kids Important Daily Supplies project through Aug. 2.

The council is collecting school supplies and donations to purchase supplies for students in need.
