A MAFIA Godfather on the run for more than 10 years has been arrested in London in an operation that left several officers injured.

Raffaele Caldarelli, 35, was held by armed police after leaving a shoe shop he owns in Hackney.

The operation was carried out by the Serious Organised Crime Unit as well as the Scotland Yard Extradition squad after a request from the Italian police.

Dozens of officers were involved in the swoop in Hackney Road late on Tuesday afternoon and three suffered-minor injuries as Caldarelli lashed out at them.

This morning Italian police confirmed the arrest and said Caldarelli had been living in a nearby flat with his wife for at least three years.

Caldarelli was wanted for Mafia association and extortion as well as trafficking in drugs and arms and was sentenced to 20 years in his absence in 1995. Police in his home town of Naples also suspect him of being involved in several murders. …
