PETER CROUCH, who took his tally to a prolific 11 goals in his last 10 England appearances with his winner in Macedonia, admitted he only had one problem last night - singing the national anthem.

It was the only time the giant Liverpool striker looked lost as he tried to sing along to an eccentric rendition before the start of the match.

Crouch said: "I tried to sing the anthem but I got lost halfway through and gave up in the end.

It was a bit confusing."

Everton defender Phil Neville, who will come up against Crouch in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, believes the Liverpool star is now up there with the best in the world.

Neville, in the side as a replacement for brother Gary, said: "Peter must be one of the most inform strikers in world football at the moment. His strike rate is phenomenal and people go on about his height but his technical ability is equal to any striker I know.

"He's a real threat when these games come along and we hope he keeps scoring. …
