Meet the next set of finalists in our fantastic Me and My Garden competition.

Your Chronicle and Dobbies Garden World have been running the contest over the past four months, and the ultimate winner will have pounds 500 to spend at Dobbies.

Today we revisit the gardens of our second five finalists, who have already bagged pounds 50 each. The remaining finalists will be featured in Your Life next week. You now have the chance to vote for who you want to win.

John and Anne Pyle

The Pyles have created a kaleidoscope of colour in their Gosforth oasis. Over the past five years, retired couple John and Anne have worked tirelessly to transform what was a straggling, uninspired lawn and shrubbery area into a thriving haven of colour and life. A stunning collection of more than 40 pots and baskets collected over the years are brimming with plants and flowers, and are added to each year.

Julie and James Anderson

Bird and nature lovers Julie and James Anderson have created a haven for wildlife in their own little corner of Newcastle. Keen-gardener Julie says her husband James and her father Alan "groundforced" their garden four years ago. Taking two months to complete, working evenings and weekends, the healthcare workers from High Heaton forged their own ideal patch of the outdoors. Inspired by her father's allotment as a child, Julie's garden has been transformed into a sanctuary for plants and wildlife.

John and Gwen Spence

Pensioners John Spence, 80, and his wife Gwen, 77, first began their hard work on their stunning garden 23 years ago when they first moved in. Now their colourful creation at Stuart Gardens, Throckley, is filled with an array of unique features and spectacular flowers and shrubs. Everything from the large ornamental pots to the balustrade and steps have been hand-made by John, who dedicates a great deal of his time to the garden. One extra-special feature is the beautiful pagoda which John crafted out of an old four-poster bed. …
