Fake Carjacking Ends with Arrest, 9 Flat Tires

Police were able to stop a car they wanted to stop late Aug. 12 as it sped down the Hart Bridge into the city's Southside.

Unfortunately, an officer didn't pull his stop stick fully out of the way and flattened tires on a Ford and Chevrolet that were also coming down the bridge.

To top things off, the incident that caused the sticks to be thrown in the first place turned out to be a fake carjacking.

Officers were sent to the Hyatt hotel downtown on Coastline Drive at 10:13 p.m. to talk to a man who said his friend had been carjacked at knifepoint by four men who stole a red 2004 Pontiac Aztek.

Police tracked the Pontiac to the Hart Bridge and threw the stop stick into its path to slowly deflate its tires.

But the stop stick landed crookedly, with part of it sticking into another lane. …
